Harley-Davidson Showcases First Electric Bike in Montreal

Harley-Davidson® has been a fan of consumer feedback for a long time so it should come as no surprise that the bike maker has expanded its American tour of its first electric motorcycle to include other countries, such as its northern neighbors in Canada, allowing riders to not only look at but also experience the power of Project LiveWire. (1)

The MTL Show

During the 2015 Montreal Motorcycle show, Canucks had the opportunity to actually test the bike (2) via a Jumpstart demonstration platform that offers a simulated riding experience. It is enough to get a feel for what the LiveWire is all about, and simply pushing it to 60 miles per hour will give you a very good idea of just how powerful this vehicle really is. (1)

Power & Performance

Gizmag says the LiveWire draws its power from a three-phase AC electric induction motor delivering a total output of 74 horsepower (55kW) and 52 pound-feet of torque (70.5 Nm) (3) that is, according to Wired, more than Harley®’s Iron 883 model. (4) The electric bike also has a top speed of 92 mph, and it can accelerate from 0-60 in under four seconds. (3)

Style & Sound

Harley®’s electric bike is very different from its siblings. It’s meant to be a pure expression of individuality and the brand’s iconic style. However, (1) unlike traditional gasoline-powered H-D® motorcycles, this one runs on battery power and it looks and sounds like it’s from the future. (2)

The new model still feels authentic to the brand but instead of that classic H-D® styling and sexy growl that we’ve become accustomed to, the sharp revving sound, the black and grey color palette, and the red accents found mostly on the inner circle of the tires should have you reminiscing about the 2010 “Tron” movie. (2) It’s a true display of the American bike maker’s innovation. (1)

Carvalho says all LiveWire bikes are hand-made one at a time, and that there are only 39 of them in the world – two of which were displayed at the Montreal show. That being said, styling and sound are really a prelude to what Harley®’s first electric motorcycle really has to offer. (2)

The bike is not yet on sale but Adamec Harley-Davidson® of Baymeadows, Orange Park, Regency and St. Augustine can provide you with details regarding the LiveWire’s upcoming tour dates. (5)
