Where to Take Your Harley® This Winter

With winter fast approaching, you’ll need to make a decision about your Harley-Davidson® motorcycle: Either you store it, plan for cold-weather riding conditions or travel to a warmer climate. Whatever you choose, here are a few tips for bike hibernation and choosing a snow-free destination. (2)

Winter Storage

Many riders choose to store their motorcycles for the winter, and if that’s the case for you, too, Harley®-Performance.com recommends a few things: (2)

  • Add the proper amount of fuel stabilizer to a full tank of fuel. Once you have completed this step, run the engine for about 15 minutes (or more).
  • When step one is complete, change the oil to get rid of sludge and dirt. Again, run the engine.
  • Remove or prepare the battery, depending on where you are storing it. Either way, make sure to keep it charged.
  • Clean and lubricate your bike to get rid of road junk like dirt, sand and road salts that could cause damage to the metal surfaces after some time.
  • Also, like a car, you’ll want to ensure that your tires are properly inflated before your motorcycle goes into hibernation.
  • Finally, Harley®-Performance.com recommends covering your bike with a tarp made of breathable material rather than plastic.

A Snow-Free Destination

All that being said, you also have the option of traveling to a warmer climate free of snow, slush and (hopefully!) rain. Florida is a great destination — and you’ll be able to visit Adamec Harley-Davidson® of Baymeadows, Orange Park, Regency and St.Augustine. Riders Plus also suggest Las Vegas, as “there is no end of motorcycle-friendly elements” is this great city. And Nevada offers excellent (and mostly maintained) riding roads with breathtaking scenery. (2)

Traveling overseas is also an option, in which case you can simply rent a motorcycle (and store your bike at home), or ship your Harley® to your desired destination. If you do decide to have it shipped, H-D® can provide you with documentation to help with the importing process, assuming you have the title or registration of your bike on hand (as the company will surely request it). (3)

If you choose to travel abroad, check out Harley®’s website for authorized tours offered in Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand, and even Africa. Each of these destinations are bound to provide you with incredible scenery, adventurous roads and many more wonders. (4)
