Ride Review of the Harley-Davidson Low Rider S
The Harley-Davidson Low Rider S is new for 2016, and it’s one of the sportier and more aggressively-styled options in the lineup. Good looks, agile handling, a strong engine and an upgraded suspension make riding this bike pure bliss—especially around town. (1)
Also worth noting is the suspension package: It provides more control, (1) helping the motorcycle react swiftly to small bumps, and keeping the tires connected to the road. (4) For stopping power, the bike’s front dual brake discs are perfectly suitable for the job. (1)
ABS, electronic cruise control and Harley’s Smart Security System come standard. (5)

The Bike
Earlier this year, the American motorcycle maker unveiled its Low Rider S model at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado. (2) The new cruiser joins the Fat Boy S and Softail Slim S to make up Harley’s S Series family—all of which have been designed to deliver more power and capability in a great-looking package. The Low Rider S in particular is Harley’s response to the question: “When will H-D build another aggressive, performance-based bike like the legendary FXR models?” (3)Performance
Power and performance are part of what makes the 2016 Harley-Davidson Low Rider S so appealing. The model’s Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, (2) although similar to the one offered with its other S Series siblings, seems like a better deal. Peak torque is 115 lb-ft—that’s between six and seven lb-ft more torque than the Softail Slim S and Fat Boy S—thanks to features like the Tommy Gun 2-into-2 exhaust and Heavy Breather intake, according to Cycle World. The engine also generates 13 percent more lb-ft than the Low Rider. Overall, the 110 unit feels plenty powerful for urban rides, and the bike should feel sporty during out-of-city adventures. (1)Also worth noting is the suspension package: It provides more control, (1) helping the motorcycle react swiftly to small bumps, and keeping the tires connected to the road. Comfort
When it comes to comfort, the model's low-profile solo-seat should more than suffice. The saddle is firm but comfortable, thanks to new foam. And the seat's deep scoop is supportive enough for those long, all-day rides. (4)Style
As for style, the new Low Rider S has proven to be a real head-turner, according to news and reviews. The blacked-out styling enhances the motorcycle’s aggressive nature and sense of rebellion, and are complemented by magnum gold cast aluminum wheels. Plus, the color of the wheels match that of the tank emblem.
