Look Great and Stay Safe While You Ride

Adamec Harley-Davidson knows summer is both prime motorcycle riding season and road accident season. All vehicle collisions are dangerous, however, there is a stark difference between getting in a crash in a compact car and getting in a crash on a Harley. Unfortunately, too many bikers these days are quick to choose looks over protection.

Ride Smart and In Style

You should never ride a motorcycle without a helmet, gloves, a heavy-duty jacket and boots. No matter how experienced you are or you think you may be, accidents happen every day, and more often than not, riders who opt out of approved safety gear tend to suffer the worst injuries. Not wearing proper apparel is a risk no one should take — it just is not worth it.

In light of the huge number of accidents that occur each year, it may come as a surprise that motorcyclists can legally ride without a helmet in 30 states. Even if it's lawful in your state, we strongly recommend that you reconsider the choice to not wear one.

Safety is not the only benefit that clothing and helmets provide. As you can imagine, the constant pummeling of the wind can do a number on an individual's fatigue levels, especially during lengthy road trips. This is even more the case when driving in less than ideal weather conditions, such as when the temperature is cold or during rainstorms. The human body is not designed to be subjected to this type of wear and tear for long, and as a result, your muscles will naturally become more tired and weak if not adequately covered. The same goes for your vision and hearing. A study by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that wearing a helmet automatically increases a motorcyclist's chance of surviving a crash and minimizes hearing loss and injuries to the face caused by precipitation (e.g. sleet, hail, rain, etc.).

Feel free to choose a half helmet, partial coverage or full-face model, but never make the mistake of leaving it at home. As for gear, the go-to material for all-around protection is high-tensile cowhide. It is incredibly durable and offers superior resistance to tearing.
