Must Have Equipment to Complement Your Harley®
Harley-Davidson® motorcycles are an adventure in their own right, and the sleek styling of custom design, in addition to the all too recognizable sound of the exhaust makes them even more enticing. That being said, to complete the overall package, you’ll need to consider some must-have H-D® equipment. (1)
1. Helmet
It goes without saying that every rider should own a helmet for safety reasons. But that doesn’t mean your gear shouldn’t compliment your bike. (1) Harley® offers an array of equipment to consider, from full-face to modular (Capstone SunShield, Visionary, FXRG), 3/4 (Elite Retro, Matte Retro), and 1/2 helmets (Notorious Low Profile, Lone Star Adjustable, Generations Hybrid). (2)
2. Leathers
Sure, leathers can be a fashion statement about how rebellious you are, but — more importantly — they provide warmth, and shield your skin from both harsh weather conditions and possible accidents, says Adventure Harley-Davidson®. (1) Prices for leather jackets range from under $300 or $400 (Traditional, Savenger and Spoiler Leather Jacket) for a decent or good option, to well over that for better to best choices (Road Warrior 3-in-1, FXRG Switchback). (3)
3. Eyewear
Seasoned riders know that good eye protection can go a long way. Sunglasses are a great option to shield your eyes from the sun, and goggles will help protect your eyes from debris. Choosing the right eyewear, however, will depend on your situation — as in, where and when you will be taking your motorcycle for a spin, and let's not forget the weather forecast. Overall, you’ll have a choice between several types of lenses: smoke, yellow, clear and transitional. (1)
4. Raingear
Mother nature can be a bit moody at times, so even if the sky is clear and there is no hint of rain for the day, it’s always a good idea to bring along your raingear — just in case. Prices range from less than to over $100, and (generally) the higher you go ($200 and over) the better your options. Extremely breathable material, reflective materials with 360-degree visibility and ultimate waterproof protection are among the aspects you'll want to keep in mind. (4)
5. Boots & Other
Comfortable boots that not only fit properly but have a good rubber base are a must. If you plan to travel during rainy weather, Harley® offers a choice of waterproof footwear to consider. (1) In addition, a saddlebag and backrest mat are also worth a look.
