The Most Scenic Rides for Motorcycle Trips

Ready for your next big Harley-Davidson® road trip? If so, based on Fodor’s Travel, we’ve listed four incredible scenic motorcycle routes in the U.S. and abroad that are bound to satisfy your craving for a unique and adventurous experience. (1)

Historic Route 66 (USA)

If Route 66 is not on your bucket list, it should be. The iconic Route, otherwise known as the Mother Road, is a journey through time; The National Highway was decommissioned in 1985, and several areas of the road have been left as is, according to The Lost Adventure. (2)

The entire stretch of roadway is 2,448 miles though you can always target a section of the route. Some bikers suggest riding west towards the Pacific Coast into warmer temperatures. Others suggest making several pit stops between Chicago and Los Angeles to view the Abraham Lincoln's home (Springfield) and the historic town of Seligman (Arizona). (1)

Our suggestions: Bring along a paper map, since your GPS may not work in certain areas. (1)

Pacific Coast Highway (USA)

If you’re searching for something a little more scenic, then you may want to take a ride along the 550-mile route of Pacific Coast Highway. As a stretch that mostly encompasses the California coast, you will feast your eyes on picturesque seaside towns and enjoy trip highlights like Bixby Bridge and Hearst Castle. Also, be sure you make it to the vintage motorcycle museum located in Solvang. (1)

Your journey will also provide you with views of waterfalls, redwood forests, blooming meadows, lush valleys, and more. Expect lots of turns, climbs and descents, says Motorcycle Roads. (3) And be prepared for limited visibility and wet roads along the way. (1)

Blue Ridge Parkway (USA)

This route is 469 miles long. The upper half runs from Afton, Virginia where you will pass a scenic countryside featuring an old mill pond and Civic War battle sites until the road intersects south with the I-77. If you opt for the lower half, you will travel from the I-77 near Fancy Gap, Virginia to Cherokee, North Carolina. This path provides you with views of the great Smokey Mountains. (4)

Hod Island (Caribbean)

If you plan to travel outside the U.S., the Caribbean is a nice destination. Tropical island sunshine, beaches, and surfing is always enjoyable, and if you decide to stay at the Westin Resort & Casino in Aruba, Fodor’s suggests the H.O.G.® Island Package for motorcycle enthusiasts: A two-to-three hour, 60- or 70-mile journey that includes several landmark stops, a visit to the town of San Nicolas, and snorkeling, among other highlights. (1)
